LoveYourBody.org creates media and educational programs promoting healthy body image for people of all cultures and sizes.

We believe that body image happens in the mind. In fact, body image has very little to do with one's actual body. Rather, it comes from messages, beliefs, habits and self-talk--mixed with a little neurobiology--which together can form a distorted "image" of how we appear. Then, throw Madison Avenue into the mix. Consider the influence and pressue from the multi-billion-dollar diet and advertising industries: the average American sees 400-600 ads per day! How do we process what we see? Do we question it, or simply ingest it? Our "literacy" can powerfully shape our self-perception.

Awarness is the antidote. By taking a step back, we can identify where negative or disempowering beliefs originate (e.g., the media, peers, family, our own limiting self-beliefs). As we grow conscious, we can shift from a passive to an active role, creating our own versions of beauty instead of trying to live up to an ideal. Or catching a self-hating thought as it's forming.

Loveyourbody.org is dedicated to giving people the tools to create beauty, health and nourishment in a way that works for them. We say: think freely and live fully...and love yourself through thick and thin.
